STEPHEN KENN AND HIS CALIFORNIAN STUDIO OF MULTIDISCIPLINARY DESIGN

"It's a process. Hard work, dedication and risk, but one of the key elements is defining for yourself why you are doing it?" is Stephen Kenn's vision of design.

Stephen Kenn did not do design school, he's a self-taught artist fascinated by the conversion of ideas into objects.

In 2004, he decided to leave Canada to settle in Los Angeles. After launching a jeans brand with one of his friends for 3 years, he decided to turn his passion for design by opening his own studio. His showroom has become a favorite meeting place for the designer, where he also organizes coffee mornings and cocktail parties.

Originally, Stephen Kenn was very inspired by military materials and objects - simple, functional and durable - and expanded his scope with leather, hand-dyed indigo canvas, or woolen blankets.

Stephen Kenn has no limit and likes to experiment with new things. Bags, sofas, outdoor furniture, dining room furniture, lighting ... he wants to be illustrated in a multitude of areas and learn constantly. He draws inspiration from everyday life, from discussions he can have with people from all walks of life, including the creative community in the Los Angeles arts district where his studio is located.

The result of Stephen Kenn's work is as beautiful as it is functional and each piece has its own story. And because building something authentic takes time, the creations signed by the designer are all hand-made, one by one.

STEPHEN KENN'S DESIGN APPROACH: STRIP THINGS DOWN TO THE BAREST BONES!

Some explanations are needed to understand the meaning of the parts made by Stephen Kenn.

Curious by nature, Stephen Kenn put a foot in furniture making by tearing his sofa to see how it had been done. This is how he discovered that the trim concealed the most interesting components in his eyes: those that make the sofa is functional. He then challenged himself to expose these components and make them beautiful. And the result is bluffing.

Stephen Kenn breaks codes by sublimating what most designers want to hide. That is why, even if the forms and functions of the furniture of the artist are varied, they always preserve a strong appreciation of the essential.
