The design week of Melbourne thinks big.
In total, it’s more than 200 conferences, exhibitions, guided tours and workshops that wait for you for this third edition of the festival. During 11 days, from march 14th to the 24th, explore the role of design in our future!
Create to show that the design has a considerable impact in our daily lives, the fair takes more and more importance each year.
The events of the fair are mostly spread in Melbourne, city that count an important community of designers working in several field : architecture, industrial design, craft production. An unique occasion to get reunited between design’s passionates, discover pieces as unique as innovative and debate around subjects more interesting than the others.
Planned : exhibitions of brands and designers from all over the world, conferences hosted by big names of design, discovery of forefront technologies for a healthier planet. A favorable environment to the development of new works and the creation of opportunities for both designers and buyers.
Celebrating the best of local, national and international design, this growing festival is an initiative of the Victorian government presented by Creative Victoria and the National Gallery of Victoria.
THE AMBITION OF DRAWING A BETTER FUTURE
While our society is in an unprecedented period of urbanization, digitization, population growth and degradation of our environment, this week aims to show how design has potential for positive transformation. Visitors are encouraged to demonstrate cultural, historical and social awareness.
This 2019 edition was organized around 5 thematic pillars :
Reconnecting with Barrarung, a series presented by Open House Melbourne, exploring ways to reconnect with the Yarra River
The War on Waste, revealing that design can have an impact on the environment
Material Matters, examining how designers think and choose materials
Possible Futures, exploring how design influences our life quality
Inclusive Cities, a series that involves design in solving urban problems
Most of the events proposed at the design week of Melbourne are free. Be careful though, some of them have limited capacity and must be pre-booked.
